RETENTION PHASE
Retention phase is the most important and critical part of an orthodontic treatment. There are various types of retainers liked fixed or removable and visible or invisible. Although removable retainers are used since years, fixed retainers are nowadays most commonly used.
1.REMOVABLE RETAINERS
  • These retention plates are to worn for 24 hours except while brushing & eating. These plates are to be used for 18 months.
  • Remove retainers when eating, brushing and swimming.Always keep them in the case given to you, otherwise they can break or get lost. (Most appliances are lost in school or restaurants.) Never keep them in pockets.
  • Clean your retainers with denturite / cleansodent powder and water with a separate brush.
  • Initially, you may find it difficult to speak. Practice speaking, reading or singing out loud to get used to them faster.
  • Keep retainers away from hot water or hot car dashboards.
  • Retainers are breakable, so treat them with care. Never keep them in pockets. Hold them properly. Don’t play with the wire.
  • If you don’t use the plates continuously , then relapse can occur, i.e. teeth can come back to their original position & all our efforts, invested time & money will go waste.
  • If retainers are lost or broken, call us immediately.
  • If you have any questions or concerns about your retainers, or your retainers need adjusting, call us. Do not try to adjust them yourself.
  • Come for check up every 4 months regularly. Always bring your retainers to your appointments.
2.REMOVABLE INVISIBLE RETAINERS
These are invisible removable retainers which are to be used continuously for 24 hours for 18 to 20 months. They are very delicate and have to be handled very carefully. They are to be removed during eating, brushing and swimming.

3.FIXED RETAINERS
Fixed retainers are ultra thin retainers which are also to be used for 18 months. They are fixed either labially or lingually depending on the case. They are very comfortable and user friendly.
